Michelle and Danny have weathered many storms, the biggest of which is
his family. But these two star-crossed lovers remain determined to make
their relationship work. We spoke with Joie Lenz about the appeal of Danny
and Michelle, and what lies ahead for them.
CBS.com: Danny and Michelle are working to be together,
regardless of his family.
Lenz: Right. But Michelle is very insecure right now.
He's told her that he's going to get away from his family but he swore
up and down for months when they were married that he could never leave
his family this way, and he is what he is. So it's really hard for her
to finally trust that. But she's trying.
CBS.com: Not so long ago, Michelle found out about Jesse
and Drew, and then she discovered that Danny had slept with Drew as well!
Lenz: We actually filmed [those scenes] out of sequence,
so it was a little confusing at first. I had all this stuff happen dealing
with that the fact that I walked in on them and then we shot the scene
where I walked in on them, so it was really weird. I guess Michelle just
kind of deals with it. She walked in on Jesse and Drew in bed, so obviously
he's gone, he's with somebody else. That's gotta be a really hard thing
for anybody to see, even if you are over the person, still you gave so
much of yourself to that person. She goes [and gets] drunk in a bar and
Danny takes her home and takes care of her. It's cute. Then they realize
that they want to be together. Then the shooting happens at the house
and all this crazy stuff is going on. She just really wants to be with
her husband right now.
CBS.com: Do you think she'll get to a point where she's
okay with Drew and Jesse?
Lenz: I'm sure. I think she'll always kind of carry maybe
a little tiny bit of bitterness towards Drew because she probably kind
of subconsciously feels like Drew really came between her and Jesse. But
I think eventually she'll realize it was for the best and also because
of the fact that now she's found Danny, which is a love that is completely
different than she felt about Jesse.
CBS.com: Do you feel that Michelle and Danny have found
true love?
Lenz: For now. I mean, it's soaps. I think you can love
many different people in your life in many different ways. Jesse was her
first love, and Danny is more like her first adult relationship. I mean,
Jesse she was with for two years, so I can't say Danny was her first relationship.
I guess it's her first kind of new experience, out of the ordinary obviously
with all the life threatening situations going on around her and the first
where she's really going into it knowing what she's doing. Because a lot
of times people get together when they're younger, it's just because,
oh I kind of like this person let's get together, and it's ends up into
a codependent relationship, which is actually what Michelle and Jesse
turned out to be, which is pretty common. So, she's going into this thing
with Danny with her head screwed on tight, she knows what she's doing.
CBS.com: She's going to still have problems with Carmen,
I presume.
Lenz: Of course. Of course! We wouldn't have a show if
she didn't! [Laughs]
CBS.com: What is it like filming those bickering scenes
with Carmen?
Lenz: Saundra's [Santiago, Carmen] really fun. She's
the sweetest person in real life and then she puts on this big face and
then she's all mean. It's really funny. We always laugh about it.
CBS.com: How do you like working with Paul Anthony Stewart
[Danny]?
Lenz: I'm so blessed. I'm learning so much just from
being in scenes with him. He really is a treasure to work with. He's just
a really giving actor. He's probably my favorite person I've worked with
so far just because I'm learning so much just from watching him. It's
really great.
CBS.com: Were you surprised with how Michelle and Danny
have taken off with the fans?
Lenz: It's cool, it totally skyrocketed! I'm so glad
the fans are getting into it!
