Lenz Is All Around Joie Lenz, who turns the soap world on by playing Michelle on GL, has started living (outside soaps) thanks to her role as Mary Tyler Moore's daughter in the ABC TV-movie Mary and Rhoda, airing Feb. 7. Anyone who's ever spoken to Lenz knows that she's pretty tough, but wasn't she intimidated by working with a legend like Moore? No. "I was excited and honored," she tells TV Guide Online, "because I know that someone of Mary's caliber must have a very high criteria for her selection process." Lenz's lack of fear could have something to do with the fact that she "never had cable growing up. I was horribly deprived. No, I'm kidding. [But] actually, I have not seen many of the Mary and Rhoda shows." On the other hand, did Lenz ever tell Moore, Valerie Harper (Rhoda) and her other co-stars that she played the soaps' first clone? "I don't think that ever came up. Maybe it did, but we were pretty much focused on the project at hand." — Jonathan Reiner |

Party Patrol: A luminescent Joie Lenz (Michelle, GL), soon to be seen in the Mary and Rhoda reunion movie, wowed reporters last weekend at ABC's party for the TCA press tour in Pasadena (CA); her date for the night was former Home Improvement kid Taran Smith, who is all grown up these days — Jonathan Reiner |
