 soapcity (sept. 2001)

When it comes to heart-stopping, hell-raising young love—the kind that triumphs against all odds and beyond all barricades!—there's nothing like a good soap opera tale. Ever since Luke and Laura climbed into that hayloft in Beecher's Corners, the soaps have always been a hotbed of romantic hook-ups and raging hormones. In honor of this grand tradition, we at SoapCity are dedicating ourselves to retelling the 50 Greatest Young Love Stories that aired on daytime from 1981 to the present. (Our choices; feel free to disagree.)

Will your favorite duo be one of our top 50 picks? Check here every day to see who we're adding to our romance hall of fame. We'll tell you which classic soap couples shared the coolest capers, hottest kisses, bleakest separations and sweetest reunions. The countdown from #50 to #1 starts now!

#30 Danny and Michelle, Guiding Light

Their First Encounter: Danny Santos came to town to check into the murder of his brother, Mick. He went to Millennium and spotted Michelle Bauer. The rest is history.

Their Most Romantic Moment: Danny arranged a romantic fairytale wedding for Michelle at Laurel Falls. Afterwards, they finally made love for the first time.

Their Hottest Kiss: Jesse confronted Danny at the diner after Michelle told him that Danny suspected Jesse killed Mick. Later, Danny grabbed Michelle, laid a steamy first kiss on her lips and silently walked away, leaving her speechless.

Their Coolest Caper: After Danny's car accident, Michelle whisked him out of the hospital and took care of him. Danny returned the favor later by rescuing Michelle when she was drugged against her will in the hospital.

Their Favorite Hideaway: While the lighthouse was originally Michelle's secret meeting place with Jesse, it became special for her and Danny as well.

Their Most Perilous Stunt: Getting married. Danny was taking on his whole mob family (especially his mother) in order to protect Michelle's life.
