Camping on a hilltop in the desert

On the Oodnadatta track, I camped alongside the road. This is the first camp, between Marla and Oodnadatta. I choose a location some 100 meters from the road and on top of a hill because I'd rather stay unnoticed by eventual passers-by. I had a reason to avoid low places. In the course of the night, under the clear sky, it becomes cold. Because there is no wind, the cold air slowly creeps downhill and fills the valleys. Even in the almost flat countryside, I can feel the difference very well during my night and dawn rides. This location on a little elevated terrain avoided the cold in the morning.

Unlike the Stuart Highway, there are no roadhouses other than in Oodnadatta and William Creek, more than 200 kilometers from each other, and also 200 kms from these places to the end of the track. So, three times I had to make "jumps" of 200 kilometres and each jump I had to complete in two days. Due to the physical exertion, I needed to stock up on a lot of food. I could carry 9 litres of water, what proved just enough.
