Fortunately there was drinking water between Coober Pedy and Glendambo

Leaving Cooper Pedy, I faced the longest distance along the Stuart Highway between two roadhouses: 254 kilometres. Only when I arrived in Glendambo would I be able to reprovision. I normally do 254 kilometres in two days. In Coober Pedy I bought food for two days, and prepared to camp along the road. The only problem was drinking water. I wasn't keen on carrying nine litres of water (at maximum capacity). People who haven’t travelled through or camped out in the desert, may not realize just how heavy water is. It can weigh a traveller down more than most other provisions. I researched if there were bores (water wells) along the road. The police said there were. The tourist officer said there were not. As I pedaled from Coober Pedy, with no guarantee of a water supply, I felt like Columbus sailing west in 1492. But unlike Columbus, in case of emergency I could stop a car and ask for water. Luckily, two bores with fresh water on this stretch of the Stuart Highway kept me refreshed.
