Early morning sunshine over the tent in Glendambo
Whenever I put up my tent, I always carefully select a proper place. In the desert, I preferred a hilltop. Such sites actually protect campers from the early morning cold. At a camping site, I look for a place near a lamp post and a bench or another place to sit. Most importantly, I always look for a place where the morning sun will warm the tent. When the sky is clear, which, fortunately, was true for most of this trip, it gets cold in the morning and condensation forms on the tent. The early morning sun would dry the tent and my other gear before I was on the road again. Looking for the exact point of the sunrise, I used a small compass to measure the direction. Even if there were some trees, I could find the direction accurately enough to catch the morning sun rays between the trees. When I studied geodesy many years ago, I never realized I would use my skill for this purpose!
