Forty days' bike tour across Australia, by Jan Boonstra.
Taking it easy in Bendigo
In Bendigo, the final goal of Melbourne was almost "in sight". I chose to rest in Bendigo since I had some spare time and I did not want to spend all of them in Melbourne. I have a passion for small towns and countryside atmosphere. Bendigo was a good choice. It looks like an English town and although I did not visit any place special, I enjoyed Bendigo. Walking through the town in the morning chill, I could smell the autumn leaves, reminding me very strongly of Europe. What a difference from tropical Darwin. I felt proud and overjoyed to have experienced such contrasting scenes in one cycling tour.
