AUSTRALIA Here I did the greatest ride I ever made, from Darwin to Melbourne in 1994. AUSTRIA A country that is promoting bicycle touring very much nowadays. Hence the famous Danube cycling track. I did only little cycling here, in Vorarlberg and near Linz. BELGIUM The Netherlands is a small country and soon I wanted to see what is beyond the horizon. About six times I crossed the Ardennes mountains and in Ghent I even spent a night in the police office during a cycling tour. (no details, sorry....) BENIN That's in West Africa, if you wondered. I worked there (in Cotonou) in 2009 and made long tours almost every Sunday. BRAZIL When I lived there in '75-'76, I used my bike for commuting to the office. In the morning freewheeling downhill and in the evening ...... No great tours made. CAMEROON On the tropical west coast of Africa, in Douala and near Limbe, I explored the country as many times as my work allowed. CHINA For adventurous cyclists. The Pearl River estuary I explored in the 90's, Later I did thousands of kilometers touring around places where I worked, all in the east and north east CZECH REPUBLIC The quality of the countrylanes is remarkably good here. Given the fact that there is not much traffic and the countryside is beautiful, you can fill in the rest. DENMARK My favourite country for relaxed bicycle touring in Europe. Friendly people and wonderful countrylanes in hilly terrain with little traffic. Four times I was there. FINLAND The deserted and unspoiled landscape made me feel close to nature in this country. I went till beyond the polar circle on my largest bicycle tour (4800 kms) in 1970. FRANCE Favoured by many, racing- and touring cyclists. I was 5 times in the northeast and once made a tour to Brittany in 1972. GERMANY From Flensburg to Passau and Rostock to Freiburg, Germany is the foreign country I toured most in Europe. Most river valleys are cyclist's paradise. GREAT BRITAIN In the sixties, I was crazy about England, the Mecca of beat music. Several times I crossed the North Sea and brought my bicycle. Also Wales and Scotland were toured, in 1966. HONG KONG Not many people can believe this, but you can do great cycling in Hong Kong. Very mountanous and busy narrow roads, but spectacular scenery. Used to ride every Sunday for 2 years. INDONESIA During day trips from Singapore. I booked some 5000 kilometres altogether. In 2009 I worked on the island of Karimun and went cycling whenever possible. IRELAND The green country with the lovely countryside, I did it in 1966. ITALY After crossing the Alps, you can't miss it. I did not much cycling here, only around some lakes and in the Alps, in 1965. JAPAN Japan is a beautiful country and the bicycle is a great way to explore it. I did that in 1993 and in 2000 KOREA There is so much to tell about (South) Korea, that I made a special website about it. LIECHTENSTEIN A souvereign state, so also to be mentioned. I crossed it from south to north in one hour or so (actually, I can't remember very well). LUXEMBURG A small country full of Dutch cyclists, so I was there too, a few times. MALAYSIA Also a beautiful and exotic country for cycling. I crossed it during my Bangkok - Singapore ride in 1995. NAMIBIA A few good asphalt roads, a lot of desert sand and wind: that's Namibia and a short story goes about this. This harsh environment is for the toughest among the cyclists. NETHERLANDS My earliest memories of the bicycle was a fall from it when I was joy-riding my brother's bike. Yet, that did not stop me from becoming a fanatic cyclist. NEW ZEALAND Great cycling country. Beautiful country too. After I made my first tour in January 1997, I decided to make another one in December of the same year. See the New Zealand website with general info for cyclists and photographs of my cycling trip. NORWAY The setting of the famous Trondheim - Oslo ride, which I participated in 1992. But also in 1969 and 1970 I pedalled here. PHILIPPINES Exotic beaches, but also bad roads. Hop from island to island by ferry boat and for the rest: you can endlessly tour on your bike. SINGAPORE For the first time in 1995, but since my company made Singapore my base in 1998, I explored all corners. I even thought it necessary to dedicate a website, called Singapore Cycling to this clean and green island-country. SPAIN I was one week in Mallorca, in 1996. Beautiful island for day-long rides. Mountain passes and easy country lanes; the choice is yours. SWEDEN During my first tour here in 1963 I was so impressed by the endless forests, that three more cycling tours followed. SWITZERLAND A country for mountain goats and height records. For me it's 2150 metres on the Grimsel pass. I crossed the Alps twice, in 1965, on my 3 speed school bicycle. TAIWAN With mountains rising up to 12000 feet, there is not much place left for living and cycling in Taiwan is struggling in the busy traffic. Unless you head for the mountains. THAILAND Two times I was here, a beautiful country for an exotic cycling holiday. See the report of my Bangkok - Singapore ride in 1995.		AUSTRALIË Hier fietste ik de mooiste tocht van mijn leven, van Darwin naar Melbourne in 1994. BELGIË Nederland is klein en ik wilde al gauw achter de horizon kijken. Vaak heb ik onze zuidergrens gepasseerd en een keer of zes heb ik de Ardennen doorkruist. In Gent heb ik zelfs eens op het politiebureau overnacht tijdens een fietstocht. (geen details, sorry....) BENIN Dat ligt in west Afrika, mocht u zich afvragen. Ik werkte daar in 2009 (Cotonou) en trok er bijna iedere zondag op uit op de fiets BRAZILIË Toen ik er woonde in '75-'76, gebruikte ik m'n fiets om naar kantoor te forensen. 's Ochtends freewheelend bergaf en 's avonds ...... Geen grote tochten gemaakt. CHINA In de jaren '90 maakte ik diverse tochten in de Pearl River delta, later werkte ik in China en maakte veel dagtochten, alleen in het oosten en noordoosten. DENEMARKEN Mijn favoriet in Europa voor ontspannen fietsen. Aardige mensen en fantastische landweggetjes door een mooi heuvellandschap met weinig verkeer. Ik was er vier maal. DUITSLAND Van Flensburg tot Passau en Rostock to Freiburg, Duitsland is het buitenland in Europa waar ik het meest heb getoerd. Veel rivierdalen zijn een paradijs voor fietsers. FILIPPIJNEN Exotische stranden, maar ook hele slechte wegen. Van eiland tot eiland met veerboten en verder eindeloos toerfietsen. FINLAND De verlatenheid en de ongereptheid van dit land was voor mij onvergetelijk. Ik ging tot boven de poolcirkel in 1970 op mijn grootste fietstocht (4800 km). FRANKRIJK Bij veel wedstrijd- en toerfietsers favoriet. Ik was 5 maal in het noordoosten en in 1972 maakte ik een tocht naar Bretagne. GROOT BRITTANIË In de zestiger jaren was ik weg van Engeland, het mekka van de beatmuziek. Diverse keren ging ik er heen en nam de fiets mee. Ook Wales en Schotland kregen een beurt, in 1966. HONG KONG Veel mensen zullen het niet willen geloven, maar je kunt fantastisch fietsen in Hong Kong. De wegen zijn steil, smal en druk, maar dat wordt beloond met schitterende panorama's. Ik trok er twee jaar lang bijna iedere zondag op uit. IERLAND Het groene land met het rustieke landschap, ik deed het in 1966. INDONESIË Tijdens dagtochten vanuit Singapore werden zo'n 5000 kilometer in de annalen bijgeschreven. In 2009 werkte ik op het eiland Karimun en trok er iedere zondag op uit op de fiets. ITALIË Als je de Alpen over gaat kom je er vanzelf. Veel heb ik er niet gefietst, alleen bij de grote meren en de Alpen, in 1965. JAPAN Een prachtig land, dat prima op de fiets verkend kan worden. Ik deed dat in 1993 en in 2000. KAMEROEN Aan de tropische westkust van Afrika, in Douala en bij Limbe, maakte ik fietstochten zo veel als mijn werk mij toeliet. KOREA Er is zoveel te vertellen over (Zuid) Korea, dat ik er een speciale website over heb gemaakt. LIECHTENSTEIN Een soeverein staatje, dus hoort er ook bij. Van zuid naar noord het land doorkruist, maar in een uurtje of zo (kan me eigenlijk niet zo goed meer herinneren). LUXEMBURG Een mooi landje vol met Nederlandse fietsers, dus ik was er ook een paar maal. MALEISIË Ook een mooi en exotisch fietsland, ik heb het doorkruist op mijn Bangkok - Singapore tocht in 1995. NAMIBIË Een paar goeie asfaltwegen, bergen woestijnzand en harde wind: dat is Namibië. Voor de taaiste onder de fietsers. Zie een klein verslagje. NEDERLAND Mijn vroegste herinnering aan de fiets was een val tijdens een "joy-riding" op de fiets van mijn broer. Toch heeft mij dat er niet van weerhouden een fanatieke fietser te worden. NIEUW ZEELAND Fantastisch fietsland. Geweldig mooie natuur. Na mijn eerste fietstocht in januari 1997 heb ik een tweede gemaakt in december van hetzelfde jaar. NOORWEGEN Het decor van de beroemde Trondheim - Oslo toertocht, waar ik aan mee deed in 1992. Maar ook daarvoor, in 1969 en 1970, fietste ik hier. OOSTENRIJK Een land dat het toerfietsen erg aan het promoten is tegenwoordig. Vandaar het beroemde Donau fietspad. Ik heb hier niet veel gefietst; een beetje in Vorarlberg en bij Linz. SINGAPORE In 1995 korte vreugde: van Johor via mijn logeeradres en toen via het centrum naar het vliegveld. Maar vanaf eind 1998 maakte mijn bedrijf mijn basis hier en als je Engels kunt lezen, vind je alles over Singapore in Singapore Cycling. SPANJE Ik was een week op Mallorca in 1996. Schitterend eiland voor dagtochten. Bergpassen of een glooiend heuvellandschap: de keus is aan jou. TAIWAN Met bergen tot 4000 meter hoog op een eiland zo groot als Nederland, is er weinig leefruimte over en fietsen in Taiwan is worstelen met het drukke verkeer. Tenzij je de bergen in trekt. THAILAND Twee maal was ik hier; een heerlijk land voor een exotische fietsvakantie. Zie het verslag van mijn Bangkok - Singapore tocht in 1995. TSJECHIË De kwaliteit van de binnenwegen is opmerkelijk goed hier. Gegeven het feit dat er niet veel verkeer is en het landschap heel mooi is, kun je de rest zelf wel invullen. ZWEDEN Na mijn eerste tocht door Zweden in 1963 was ik zo geïmponeerd door de eindeloze wouden dat er nog drie fietstochten volgden, waarbij ook mijn grootste fietstocht ZWITSERLAND Altijd het laatst bij dit soort overzichten, kan het land ook niet helpen. Een land voor klimgeiten en hoogterecords. Voor mij was dat 2150 meter op de Grimselpas in 1965 op m'n 3 naafversnelling schoolfiets.
