What do you think we need for a good hamming? A good equipment, a high gain antenna, and also foreign language ability as non-English speaking people.

Matt has a reasonable radio system, an excellent antenna, a nice operating manner, a good knowledge about electronics, a perfect command of English and furthermore the location is almost perfect for hamming, low noise and widely open to any direction.

I don't think he is keen about making the equipments, however when he tried with homemade x-tal filter for his old TS-430, the audio sounded excellent. He always try to make a better audio (what he calls, studio type audio! ) to have a more reliable and enjoyable qso with his friends.

His location is Ami, northeast from Tokyo. There is a lake near his place towards north America so the signal takes off very nicely reflecting over the water.

We do have some neutral friends. We came to know that AL7JF, Marty had visited my qth and also Matt's place. And W6FR, W6KP, W8PHZ, and W0OKC are good neutral friends of us.

I came to know another friends through Matt. When I visited VK in 1996, I met VK4AML, Greg in Brisbane . WD6EAW, Tom who has a regular base sked with Matt, is also a friendly friend I recently came to know.

These are very good of Ham Radio to make World Wide Friendships Through the Radio. We haven't yet met in person each other. I really would like to meet him and his family on an eye-ball someday and enjoy drinking a couple of beers although we don't drink much.
