Doreen lived in Jindalee, Brisbane when we visited in 1996. Jindalee
is an Aboriginal word which means 'hilly
country'. When we visited her house, the
scenery from her kitchen through the large
glass was very beautiful like the place name. She is really friendly and her voice sounds
very pure like a little girl. When I met her, I
thought she got doe eyes and looked
innocent. I don't know whether any of these
words has any negative meaning in English
but please understand that I want to tell you
only positive meaning with these expressions. <in front of Doreen's house. we saw a
possum on the palm tree in the back> With regard to her involving in Amateur
Radio, I here have her profile that she wrote
for local Radio Club. I will sum it up because
it's a little bit too long for this page. profile of Doreen ( BAYSIDE BEACON Feb, 1996) I married Ernie, an aircraft radio technician and in 1970 he accepted a position in
Goroka, PNG. Thus, in search of greener pastures, we took up residence there. As
there was no television we purchased a Trio short wave receiver which kept us in touch
with the world events. After returning to Australia, my
brother, Arthur, VK3BCI inspired
me to listen to his scheds via the
old Trio. He also encouraged me
to be a ham. But I had absolutely
no idea of the study this was
going to involve. Within days I
was inundated with CW cassette
tapes from my brother and when
the Bayside Club ran a short regs
course in August 1993, Arthur
said "go for it". To my delight, I
passed.! <at Doreen's small Radio Room> When propagation permitted, I had a sched with my brother. All of the study had been worthwhile. -WONDERFUL. I am greatly enjoying my new hobby and discovering new friends who now recognize my voice, as I do theirs. - - - - - - Other interests are gardening and genealogy. Sadly, my brother became a silent key in May 1995 but I will be eternally grateful to him
for his inspiration and encouragement for me to become involved in Amateur Radio
and to follow in his footsteps. a part of e-mail from Barry, Doreen's son After that they achieved many skeds and that boosted my uncles life for a few more years as he had by this time become very sick and was unable to move around so the radio became his modem to communicate with the rest of the world. |
