name : 'Tom'  Takemae
QTH   : La Crescenta, CA, USA

Tom teaches Spanish at high school in LA.  He occasionally started QSO with greetings in Korean language which he learned from his Korean students at school.

His Korean was not too bad as a foreigner.  However it wasn't easy to explain him somewhat different way of speaking Korean in comparison with most of western languages.

Korean, Japanese, and also Chinese, we have a honorific expression which is different with a polite way of speaking.  It is a term of respect to the senior and a bit strict.  You have to put different stems to the base words and sometimes it's difficult even for us, Koreans to speak.

By the way, Tom is originally from Japan and studied Spanish in America and now he teaches Spanish in LA.  His wife, Lucy is from Colombia and you can also see his son, Tony, studying Physics in Univ.  Tom is very proud of Tony for his wholesome ideas as youngman.

Tom started Ham Radio when he was in Japan and still has got many ham friends in Japan.  JA1AEA who wrote several books about Quad antenna is one of his long-time friends.

Not only Korean language, he also likes to eat Bulgoki ( Korean style roast meat ) and to drink Soju ( Korean drink ).  At Karaoke, he enjoys Korean popular song very much. I heard through the e-mail that he had been sick and had diverticulosis at the end of 1996.  Now he gets well and back to the radio. Hopefully we can sing Korean songs together someday in the future.
