name : Donal M. Reid
QTH   : Opotiki, New Zealand

Donal has many friends in Japan and he also
visited Korea a few times.  His 60th birthday passed in 1997, however he still lives alone and is bashful just like a young boy.

His new house, where he has shifted after 33 years in one place, stands on the hill where most of hams are envious of.  It is such a beautiful house just like in picture.  While we stayed at his place, we could look down the valley, cows and sheep in the paddock, and the beautiful Pacific Ocean beyond the valley.

There have been many visitors to his place.  We could find them on the guestbook.  Two young ladies from Japan have visited him and spent their holiday there, traveling around the country.  A young man has stayed at his place more than one year and has helped Donal dig a long waterway along the hill.
One of my JA friend,Yuki,
JA2FTR has also been there during his honeymoon trip.

Donal now retired, and has been taking care of his brother's cattle and participated in Rotary Club as one of the most active members.  We can guess the life in the farm hasn't been easy from his rough hands.  But the good hearts of people in village and beautiful scenery might have shaped him a good friendly person. He also has been doing his best for the life, I believe.

While we stayed there,he was so kind and generous.  When we parted at the Whakatane airport, I was really sorry and almost got my eyes tearful.  A plane for Auckland was too small like a glider and I was very scared at first.  But the flight attendant, who is also responsible as a copilot, was very kind and most passengers were friendly to us. I got accustomed to it soon.

North Island from the small aircraft looked so nice, peaceful and full of green on the left even in winter, unlike blue color in the Pacific Ocean on the right.
