name : Ralph Sutton
QTH   : Wellington, New Zealand

Gwenda, Ralph's wife, visited Korea in 1994 to participate in Esperanto language seminar in Seoul and she came to Pusan to meet us.  We also visited NZ in 1996 and they treated us like a family member.

Ralph is a member of SERVAS which is an international organization and through the SERVAS people help each other when they travel oversea and they enjoy meeting up the other people.  The apartment near to the city center is very well organized and there was an old cat, Lancelot that has been used for an e-mail ID of Ralph's.

Gwenda used to teach at school and she got a tour guide license so she showed us many kinds of things of New Zealand throughout from culture to people.  We could understand that the government had been trying to keep the culture of Maori, NZ's native people and they adopted Maori language as a NZ's official language with English.

She also took us to the Parliament House and showed us a very special footing system of the building which could reduce the damage from earthquake.  She thought that it would be helpful to my husband,HL5KY  because he majored in architecture in the university.  Those were really nice of her and the way she always tried to do for us.

<Ralph and Gwenda took us to a beautiful restaurant>

Before we started for NZ, ZL2ALY, Cliff sent us an e-mail about hamming in NZ as a foreigner.  As long as you have your license whatever country's, you can use VHF,UHF repeaters for 4 weeks without ZL license. You can identify your station with your callsign stroke(slash) ZL.  e.g. HL5BTF/ZL   I could talk to a women in South Island from Wellington through 'The System' which is linked throughout most of NZ from the far north to the deep south.

Ralph and Gwenda were invited to teach English in Japan in 1994.  During their staying in Shikoku island, Ralph worked as 7J5AAN callsign and had a lot of fun, enjoying a kind of different radio environment here in Far East.  At his apartment, he doesn't have a big antenna now. However he still enjoys regular schedule on CW with a dentist, Mack, JE1CLH after Mack finishes his lunch.
