introduction

These pages are meant for anybody who is interested in the Korean language and they summarize particular aspects you will not easily find in textbooks and dictionaries. Regarding pronunciation, it may show that hangeul is not as 'technical' and perfect as many want to believe. This is because Korean is a living language, subject to development which cannot be followed by written Korean without continuously changing the rules; a practical impossibility.

The Korean words are written in hangeul and in a romanized spelling in accordance with the romanization rules as drawn up in 2000 and laid down in the "munhwa gwan-gwangbu gosi 2000 nyeon - 8 ho" by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. (For clarity's sake in case of epenthesis Rule C.8. has been chosen over Rule C.1.2.)
