Paul Anthony Stewart is nominated with Joie Lenz for the Favorite Couple Soap Opera Award this year for their portrayal of Michelle and Danny. The Soap Opera Awards will be held this March, but buy a copy of Soap Opera Digest now to vote on the winners! (The ballot is in the November 30 issue). We asked Paul Anthony about his nomination.

CBS.com: How does it feel to be nominated?
PAUL ANTHONY STEWART: I can't even describe it. I'm speechless [laughs]. It's an incredible honor and I'm just thrilled that the viewers are so smitten with Danny and Michelle.

CBS.com: What do you think is the appeal of Michelle and Danny?
PAUL ANTHONY STEWART: The leather jacket [laughs], the murder, the intrigue, the evil mother-in-law that's trying to keep them apart. All of those scenes under the sheets [laughs]... I don't know. That would be my guess. That's what would make me watch.

CBS.com: What is some of the stuff that you're most proud of this year?
PAUL ANTHONY STEWART: How many different hairstyles that I've managed to have in the course of a year—given my very limited length of hair. [laughs] That's my crowning achievement. I've gone through three leather jackets. What am I most proud of? Basically that I've made it through all of this intense storyline without having a nervous breakdown in real life. I think I'm most proud of that. I love my character and I love the storyline that Barbara and Jim have written for Danny and Michelle. I love challenging work and this definitely has been it. I just try to do my best everyday. If one day it doesn't feel so good, there is always tomorrow, which keeps me going. I'm just really proud that whatever Joie and I are doing—and I really mean whatever it is we're doing because I don't know what it is—is generating such a positive response with the viewers. I think it's great. And I'm so touched by all of the support and the positive mail that viewers have been sending in. It's really amazing.

CBS.com: Does the award mean more because it's fan related rather than peer related?
PAUL ANTHONY STEWART: I never really thought about it. I think in a way it means more that this award is reflected by the fans because they're the ones who are watching and supporting the show. And also, I'm really proud that it's the couple. It's Danny and Michelle that the fans are so crazy about. Because that's my job is to portray my character and storyline as convincingly as possible. It's not about me, Paul. It's not about getting an award for myself. I've never really been into that. I like to show up and do my thing and do it the best I can. I guess the fact that the fans love Danny and Michelle so much tells me I'm doing at least a halfway decent job.

CBS.com: So who will you bring with you to the show?
PAUL ANTHONY STEWART: I haven't even thought that far ahead in advance.

CBS.com: Well, good luck.
PAUL ANTHONY STEWART: Thank you.
