April 19, 1999 Pilar and Bill are sitting there at the diner, Bill has his arm across the table with his hand on pilar's arm. Danny asks if something is wrong with his hearing, he told him to get his hand off his sister. Pilar is telling danny that she knows the truth about the family now, it was all true. Danny says he doesn't know what this clown has been telling her but it's not true. Pilar says he isnt her brother andymore, she doesn't know who he is anymore. He tells her that they are going to finish this on the way to the airport. she tells him she isn't going anywhere but he is gathering up her coat and purse and starts pushing her towards the door telling her she is going to miss her flight. She is yelling at him and bill gets up and grabs Danny's arm. Danny turns around and starts to yell at Bill and Bill hits him hard in the face. (that poor sweet face has taken a beating in the last week) they start fighting and Pilar is screaming for them to stop. end of scene Pilar breaks them up but they are still glaring at each other and Bill looks at danny and mouths"come on". Pilar tells Danny that this has nothing to do with Bill, it's between them. she tells Bill she is sorry that she didnt tell him who she really was, he says it's okay, he can understand why she didn't want anyone to know she is a Santos and pushes danny. Danny lunges for him and pilar is yelling at them to stop it again. Danny tells her that he wants to talk to her outside, she tells him he isn't shipping her off to school again and he yells " OUTSIDE, I WANNA TALK TO YOU OUTSIDE, ALONE!!" Pilar tells bill that she is sorry she dragged him into all of this and he tells her it's alright. She goes outside and Danny looks at bill and says we aren't through yet. Bill says he will be waiting. Danny tells Pilar he isn't mad at her, he doesn't know what went on in there but whatever Bill told her it was bull. she asks why he would lie and he says because they have alot of money and he is jealous (ummm... excuse me but I was under the immpression that the Lewis's and Chambelin's were fairly well off. Why would bill be jealous??) She says that Bill told her that Manny were forced to marry and that mama wanted to kill Michelle. Danny says why would you believe him?? you don't even know him. She asks him not to lie to her, If you ever loved be please tell me the truth, I'm begging you, because the questions won't stop coming. please, I have to know... are we really the monsters that people say we are? He looks at her with tears in his eyes, chews his lip and trying not to cry he reaches out and touches her shoulder and says "Not you Pilar,....... never you" end of scene Pilar is standing over by the window to the diner away from Danny, she walks over to him and he is crying, tears running down his face. She says, I trusted you, you knew how much i wanted to come home, I begged you to let me come home Danny quietly "you did" instead we took those stupid vacations to Milan or hawaii. Danny half laughing "come on, we had a great time on those vacations (wipes the tears off his face) Pilar says No, you had a great time on those vacations I wanted to come home and be part of the family, instead, i felt like a stranger and now i know why. Danny says I couldn't tell you, I couldn't ever since you were a little girl mama made me promise to never let you know. Pilar says We're crimminals, Danny: No pilar, we're not, Pilar says we're just a bunch of mobsters! he tells her she is making it sound alot worse than it is. She asks him how it could be any worse, she turns around and as if she is talking to someone else says Hello, my family is in finances, turns back to danny and says oh, mine is in the Crime business, could you please pass the ketchup!!!!! he tells her it's not like that. she asks how is it then, our saint of a mother ordered the execution of your wife! he tells her that mama had her reasons, pilar wants to know what reason she could have had to have michelle killed. Danny starts crying even more, I can't..... you know those articles that you showed me about mick? Pilar says the ones that said he died of head injuries? he reaches out and takes her hand and says baby, Mick wasn't alnoe on the beach that night, Michelle killed him. Pilar looks like she is going to be sick end of scene you can see bill watching them out the window Pilar: Maybe I didnt hear you right? Did you just say that Michelle, your Michelle killed our brother? D: Listen to me, it was an accident. P: No. you just said she murdered him. D: He, he attacked her, he wouldn't leave her alone. P: So she bludgeoned him to death. D: You know how Mick was, if he didn't get his way he popped, he got violent. Thats what happened with Michelle. P: He popped? D: (very quietly) He was trying to rape her, P: (cutting in) Who told you this D: so she picked up a rock, she was trying to defend herself. Michelle, Michelle told me. P: Were there any witnesses? D: No....No P: So you believed her, you took her word for it?? D: She wouldn't, she didnt lie to me Pilar, not about this! P: And why wouldn't she (crying really hard now) HUH? why wouldn't she? Because she loves you so much?? because she is so in love with you?? HUH? D: (cutting in and through clenched teeth) stop! P: If she loved you so much Danny, if she was so in love with you then she would still be here, she would still BE with you! He had kind of almost stopped crying but now he is crying even more than he was D: (it sounds like the words are hard to get out) She didn't leave me okay, (he snaps her coat at her) she didnt leave me. P: No, she just got away with murder! D: You're not listening to me okay, it, (wipes tears of his face) it was an accident (wipes other side of his face) Okay P: an eye for an eye, isn't that the saying? D: It isn't like it was intentional, it isn't like it was a hit or something P: I don't care, I don't care. Michelle killed our brother......Michelle must pay. Now he looks like "what have I done" end of scene Pilar starts to walk away and Danny takes her arm and pulls her back D: Don't ever let me hear you talk like that again P: talk like what? a Santos? D: yes P: You think I forgot about Dads life lessons? D: How could you remember that? You were just a little girl. P: I remeber, mama used to send me upstairs, excuse me after dinner but I used to sit at the top of the stairs and listen D: (pushing her hair back) Why did you listen? P: everynight until mama cuaght me, she asked me what I had heard and I told her, eye for an eye, justice. She asked me if I understood what that ment and I told her no but she knew, she knew! Because right after that she sent me away. To protect me from all of this! D: yes, yes, because you don't have to be like the rest of us, you can be better, you can be so much better than that. You have to go back to school. P: I'm not going back there. D: Your not safe here. P: I don't care D: You are going back to spain and you are going to forget that any of this ever happened P: No, I won't forget it, I won't, because I'm a part of it now, I'm a part of this family D: Listen to me, if you leave school now every dream that ma had for you to have a normal life is going to be destroyed. Don't you understand that? P: What about me Danny, huh? what about me, when do I get to dream? They just look at each other End of scene Danny is trying to help her put her coat on D: why cant you just forget this for now, just let it go and go back to school and finish your symester. P: and listen to you like a good little girl Danny? D: yeah P: No i won't, I won't anymore D: If you give up school Pilar you will regret it, trust me. P: The only thing I regret, the only thing is that none of you told me the truth, You left it up to a stranger to tell me what was going on around here. D: (yelling) What do you want me to say? what do you want me to do?! (quieter) what do you want to do? P: I'm going to talk to Mama. D: No you're not, about what? P: yeh, and you don't think this is killing me too? D: I know it is but. Bill comes out of the diner B: are you okay? D: She's fine P: yes B: Look, I hop I didn't make things any worse for you D: (give a sarcastic little laugh) P: No Bill looks at Danny like he is ready to start fighting again B: Listen P: No, i'm really grateful, you really opened up my eyes B: okay, look take my number, I want you to call me if you want to talk about anything okay? P: thank you D: She's not going to be calling you (he tries to take the pice of paper that Bill put in Pilars hand away, but Bill pushes his hand away and gives the paper back to Pilar) P: How do you know, how do you know? Maybe you don't know everything about me Danny. she starts to walk away but danny puts his hand on her arm and stops her. Bill pushes his hand away from her. D: where do you think your going? P: will you lay off? Just lay off Danny Danny pushes bill, bill pushes danny P: I'm not goign to talk to mama yet, I'm just going to go for a walk. D: tell me where P: Just for a walk, I have to think about things Danny, I have to think. Just leave me alone Bill kind of puts his hand out to stop Danny from following her. Danny waits a minute and then pushes Bill hard D: You, you are off limits to her for life, Do you hear me? B: and what if I don't? D: Don't push me Lewis, It won't be good for your health. The tears are all gone and that cold mask is back on Bill looks at danny and then to where Pilar went, back at Danny and then he goes in the same direction that Pilar went in. Pilar walks up to some brick wall by herself and stops P: So you think I'm innocent Mama..... I'm going to show you just how innocent I really am. she walks off.
