April 23, 1999 The scene starts where it left off Danny is telling Michelle that he didnt change his mind, and he pulls the annulment papers out of his pocket. Says I want you to sign them. M- looking down shaking her head says "just like that?" D- Michelle you knew this was coming M- (voice breaking) after everything that I just told you last night? I told you how i feel. D- well it doesnt fix everything M- I dont expect it to fix anything, but I never said it was gonna be easy for us. D- right, well it should be more than easy. It should be over. M- you think that this piece of paper is just going to evaporate our marriage. That it never happened? D- Michelle, we never had a marriage to begin with, you know that. M- It became something, Danny we have to find out what that is. D- it didnt become anything. we're too different and our marriage proved that. M- i dont understand why you keep trying to convince me or yourself that we mean nothing to each other. this... D- (handing her the pen) sign the papers ok? sign them. M- no (grabbing the pen) no because, can you look at me and honestly tell me that we mean nothing to each other? that we're not right for together, can you look at me and know that for sure? D- I know. Michelle I know that my life isnt right for you. That being together would only make us both miserable. M- you cant know whats right for me, and you cant know what we would be together, and neither can I. But you know, what I do know is that when I am passionate about something I dont give up and I dont want this marriage to end. D- you're unbelievable. now you dont want it to end. M-(sighing) danny look I know this sounds ridiculous, I know I fought this marriage every step of the way. I was just so sure I didnt want to have anything to do with you. D- well you should have stuck with your first impression, michelle. M- I was so busy fighting you, that I didnt realize I was startign to have feelings ok? I didnt know how to deal with them, but I am trying to deal with them now so I dont have to look back and wonder what they were. D- just sign the papers ok? Sign the papers. (his head is down ad he is rubbing the back of his neck) M- i know I hurt you. I know it is hard for you to trust me after what I've done. But i know that you believe what I am saying cause i know that you feel it, I can see that you feel it. Danny you remember when you told me that we had enough of a connection, of an understanding, that we could make this crazy marriage work? D- (cutting in agitated) look I was wrong ok? I was wrong. M- you weren't wrong, you saw a connection, before i could, before I would. D- right because you're in love with jesse. M- because I was in love with jesse. Danny I...being with you it changed that somehow. I...I dont know. dont you see that everything has changed with you that has to say something. D- yeah it says that i screwed up your life, michelle and this annulment will be a blessing. Please sign. M-this is not what I want (standing up, raising her voice) this is not what you want. you're protecting yourself here. D- you're being incredibly naive. Do you know that? M- maybe i am, but you're lying. When i kissed you last night, you're gonna tell me that you didnt want me too? Go ahead, go ahead (moving closer to his face) you tell me that. go ahead you tell me that you dont wanna kiss me right now. D- (stands up very flustered, grabs her hand and tries to make her sign the papers) sign them, take the damn pen. will you sign this, (yelling) sign it! M- (rips them up) I will not, I will not, I will not sign these. I'm not gonna let you run away from me. D- (picks up the ripped papers and his coat, they are both very upset) OK come on M- come on what? where are you taking me? D- you need to see something (leads her out of millennium) They are at the park at a bench M- ok alright why did you bring me here? D- (hands in his hair) see this bench? M- yes I see the bench danny. I dont wanna talk about it. D- looks like a normal bench right? where mothers bring their kids for a nice day at the park right? M-yeah D-my mother brought me here one day when I was 14. She told me that facts of my life, my legacy. I learned everything that day. see my father never really told me anything before he died cause i wasnt a man yet, and thought that i wouldnt understand. but i became a man right here. my mother told me everything about my family and what we do. the history of every santos generation what we did to survive, and what we must continue to do to protect the family. she said we must never show our weaknesses, never be vulnerable with our enemies, or we lose everything, we're dead. then she told me i am the future of this family, and that we must always do what ever it takes to protect the family, whatever it takes. My life changed that day. I learned who i am, and what will always be expected of me. M-(moving in closer to him) Danny i'm so sorry. D-(moving away from her) what are you sorry about? Its my life, its who i am. M- but its not who you are because i know you D- no you dont know me michelle thats my point. there is a code that i live by, that i will always live by. M- i cant believe that D- well then you're living in a fantasy. what do you think? you think i can just skip off and live in some sort of suburban fairy tale with you? Why would i wanna do that? why do you? why? M- cause i think you would give anything to live in my world. D- right i would give...huh...I would be bored to death M- Danny you would never be bored if we were together. i think that given a chance we would be great and you do too. D- no. you are really easy to manipulate, you know that? you just only see what you wanna see (sarcastic smile), you're just so accustomed to people evolving to suit your needs all out of their great love for you, arent you michelle? M- are you telling me that i imagined you feeling something for me? D- yes I wanted you to believe exactly what I wanted you to believe. that way I could control you, and believe me you were hard to control. M- you're lying. D- oh you think so, you dont like to change people, it took me a minute I saw the grease monkey turned romeo jesse blue, your crowning achievement. I knew how to play you. M- what? I never saw jesse that way, he always wanted to get away from the life he had. D- oh yeah he had alot of potential right? Do you think i have alot of potential michelle? I have as much potential as i let you think i have. you cant change me, and you know what i dont want to change (sarcastic grin again) M- yesterdays kiss, i know you felt something you can't fake that danny D- oh i know you can't fake it, you're a beautiful girl michelle, i am a guy it is called lust M- (very frustrated, puts her hands on here head) that is not what it was, that is never what it was danny D- oh wake up, what do you think? we were thrown together! lying in bed everynight, side by side, barely clothed, we're human michelle. M- so that kiss was just a bunch of pent up sexual frustation? D- well ir certainly wasnt the romance novel that you write in your life. Have you ever thought what it would be like living with me? have you? Lets say we stay together, you wanna pursue your career as a doctor, and your friends start saying, nice marriage, she saves lives, he takes them. and everytime I go out of the house you're gonna wonder what i am up to, but you won't really want to know. What if we have another argument, are you gonna keep a knife in every room in the house, to defend yourself? M- stop danny! you knoe that you would never do that to me, i know you would never do that to me, because we would be together and have a family right? D- and what if one day i brought our son here, to this bench and i told him what my mother told me. Do you really want that for your children? you think you can just bring me into your world. i would pull you into mine, and it would destry you michelle. M-ok I get the message, i had this foolish romantic idea, i supposed there was something good in you. that my feelings , whatever i was starting to develop, might actually provide for what we had i guess. D-what? save me? you thought you could save me? get over yourself, i dont want to be saved. M- thats not what i was trying to do. i just wanted to be fair to us and to our marriage. I didnt want to quit you know, thats something I have never really done. D- let me tell you something. sometimes it is just better to quit while you can. M- you're such a coward...huh...you're right, you know, yeah, when you kissed me I guess i could have been anybody, so um...wow you have a nice life and you get the papers send them over and i'll sign them. Michelle walks away crying Danny takes a deep breath and closes his eyes. commercial Millenium Danny is sitting at the bar and pilar walks up. She looks concerned. D- hey what are you doing here? P- just forget about me for a minute, you look like hell danny. D- oh thanks, thank you P- no i mean it, what happened to you? D- oh nothing much i had to the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. P- what? D- look what are you doing here, why are you working here? P- shh before you try and drag me back home, i want you to listen to me , just listen. I know you have always tried to take care of me and you've protected me but I wanna be independent now I need to do this on my own. D- thats a big decision Pilar P- well I am not going back to mamas no matter what. D- good for you, you get as far away as you can, Ok? its not to late for you. P- you really mean that? D- of course i do. you are saving yourself and I am really proud of you. HUGGING P- thanks danny you have no idea how it makes me feel for you to support me on this. D- well I am your big brother. you got yourself a job huh? P- well actually bill lewis got it for me. but can you believe it mama cant touch me now. END outside we see carmens thug walk up to bill and tell him to stay away from pilar, beats him up then leaves him on the bench. Then to the loft where(cringe) dresse is. TWV says she's beautiful(cringe again) then in walks Michelle, saying drew I really need to talk to you... stops and turns her head away.
