Company - Bill and Michelle
M: Hi, oh, it's so good to see you!
B: long time no see
M: Yes, I know, my fault about that, sorry
B: That's alright. So, what's up? You haven't gone and gotten married on me 
again while I wasn't looking, have you?
M: (smiles) ha, ha
B: ok, ok, bad joke, I'm sorry
M: it's ok
B: I really am sorry. I know uh, you and Danny, what all you guys went 
through was really rough
M: yeah, it was, but it's over right? Time to move on.
B: ok
M: move on
B: ok 
M: ok
B: So, what'd you want to talk to me about?
M: College - I'm coming back!!
B: That's great
M: Yes, I know, it's very good. I just missed so many classes that I really 
am going to need your help with getting back on track. So (pause) -what 
happened to your eye Bill?
B: Oh, ah, yeah, um, playing... shotting hoops - took an elbow.
M: ohhh!
B: yeah, no big deal. 
M: Sure?
B: But you going back to school, that's a big deal. That's great. You've been 
talking about being a doctor since you were a baby.
M: I know, and I'm really glad to be back on track, because I lost everything 
that I cared about when I got involved with Danny. I really did, you know? 
I'm just glad that's behind me. I'm glad that Danny and I are finished and 
now I can get on with my life.


Danny and Pilar, entering her new place, he is carrying a book shelf, she has 
a box
P: Thanks for lugging that bookshelf up all those stairs
D: oh, yeah, yeah
P: I couldn't have done it by myself
D: I've still got to set this puppy up. I can't leave town 'til I'm sure 
you're settled in your new place, your new life.
P: Danny, I'm gonna miss you so much when you're gone. It's going to be so 
lonely here without you. I might as well go back to school.
D: No, no, this is the only way that Mother will leave you alone. Come on, 
You deserve a shot at a normal life, and a good life.
P: Yeah, but when I think of what it's costing you, I get 
D: (cutting her off) Try to understand, I'm happy that you're free, ok? that 
means everything to me.
P: Mother's still controlling you, making you do things you don't want to do. 
Try to understand how unhappy that makes me.
D I wanna go out west.
P: There's another reason you're so determined to leave town. I know - 'cause 
you don't trust yourself to be around Michelle.

Bill and Michelle again
B: So, it's  over, huh? You and Danny?
M: Yeah, yeah. I had this whole movie thing mapped out in my head where my 
feelings for Danny were going to save him from the life that Carmen had 
planned for him and we were meant to be together forever, and it was going to 
be for all the right reasons, ya know?
B: Sounds like a good movie.
M: It sounds like a fantasy
B: (laughs) What about Jesse?
M: Bill, Jesse's with Drew now. Did you not know that?
B: No, I didn't but I always knew that there was something going on between 
those two. 
M: Yeah, you and everybody else who knew them, except for... oh, yeah! Me! 
That would be me!
B; (laughs)
M: But it's alright, they seem kind of right for each other.
B: You're sure you're ok with it?
M: As ok as I can be. They, ah, they seem kind of natural together, so I hope 
they are happy. 
B: So.. that leaves you and???
M: Nobody. I mean, you know, Jesse's gone, Danny's gone, my marriage is 
over, but it's ok. It's a good thing that I can concentrate on school and I 
can concentrate on becoming a doctor and saving lives, which is what I wanted 
to do.
B: You're sure that's all you want?
M: Well Bill, you said it yourself. You know this is what I have wanted since 
I was a kid. What I have dreamed of. Which brings me to why I wanted to talk 
to you in the first place. I need to borrow everything that you have from 
that organic chemistry class that I was never there for. I need your notes, 
your book, your tests that you saved, anything I just need to review it all. 
(looks up)
That's one of Carmen's guys! What's he want? What is he doing here??
(thug comes over to the table, Bill starts to get up)
Thug: Relax, kid. Order from the top, I won't be giving you anymore trouble.
(thug leaves)
M: God! Bill!! Is that what happened to you?!?!
B; Look, let me explain..
M: (interupting him) If Danny had something to do with this (she gets up to 
leave)
B: (sitting her back down) Michelle, wait, sit down, wait. Look, this has 
nothing to do with Danny, ok? This was his mother.
M: why would Carmen want to hurt you?
B: Because I told her daugther the truth about the Santos family. I helped 
Pilar stand up to her mother, which was probably wan't too popular of an 
idea. Look, Danny said he was gonna fix it, so I, ah, guess that's what he 
did. 
M; How did we both get mixed up with these people Bill?
B: Well, my answers are pretty simple. I happened to run into a pretty girl who 
needed help. But I've got a feeling your answer may be a little tougher
M (sits back)

Carmen on phone  about Danny going to California, how it will be good for 
him. She also talks about how Michelle won't be around from much longer, 
she's found someone to neutralize Danny's threats (in walks Ben)

back to Michelle and Bill
M: what's wrong with you?
B: what, what?
M: I don't understand what's wrong with you, Bill. Did you not learn anything 
from the nightmare that I just went through with these people? Please Bill, 
listen to me. Please stay away from this girl.
B: That's what her mother said too. You know, you two have more in common 
than you think. 
M: Stop,. God, come on now, listen. Look, you might think that you can have a 
relationship with her, but I'm telling you, that no matter how hard you try, 
or what you do, Carmen is always going to be there to screw things up. Bill, 
it will blow up in your face.
B: Like it did with you.
M: I was talking about you
B: Look, look, Michelle, we've been friends forever, right? So, I think I 
know a little bit about you. Pilar's a girl that's moving in next door, with 
about a hundred miles of bad road for a mother (M laughs). Look, maybe I'll 
get involved with her, maybe I won't. I don't know. 
But you're married to Danny. You can talk about being over him, and going 
back to school, and whatever else you want to talk about, but you're still 
married to him, and I think you want to be (He stands up)
Look, why don't you just think about that while I go get that book for you.

Danny and Pilar, still in her room
P: You're still leaving, even though you love her.
D: I don't love Michelle (yeah, right!!)
P: (sighs, exasperated) It's me Danny, me. Forget for a minute who we are and 
pretend we are just a normal family, ok?
D: ok (sounds skeptical)... alright
P: Come on, I'm your sister, and I love you, that's normal, isn't it?
D: So what?
P: So, trust me, I'm probably the only person in the whole world you can 
trust. You brought me here to help you go through something you couldn't go 
through by yourself. This wasn't part of Mama's big plan for your future. But 
it happened, and there's no going back Danny.
D: Alright, so what do you think I should be doing?
P: Stop pretending you can't have things the way you want. Your dream of a 
perfect life has Michelle in it.


Carmen and Ben - he looks over her books and says they are in order. He wants 
to know about the nature of Danny's threats. She says nasty things about 
Michelle. Ben concludes that Danny must have the real books, the ones that 
could blow Carmen out of the water.

back to Danny and Pilar
P: You love her Danny, I know you do!
D: Look, how can I love someone I don't even know? I hardly know her. 
(liar!!!)
P: Tell me, then, something you do know about her
D: (pacing, seems agitated, as if the topic makes him uncomfortable) I don't 
know, I don't know. Look, she's studying to be a doctor, you know, she has 
sort of dream to help people
P: She sounds a lot like..
D: (interupting her) No, I don't think so. (unbuttons his shirt during this 
rant, exposing a grey tank top) Our marriage was a disaster, ok? We were 
constantly fighting, we made each other crazy, she made me crazy. She was 
completely unpredictable. totally defiant, and bossy one minute, she was 
vunerable and caring, the next, and now, out of the blue, she wants us to 
have a normal life together, like I can just walk away from the family! Some 
crazy romantic notion of hers. It would never work. I told her that.
Pilar: You don't believe that Danny, not in your heart! (he yanks at his 
shirt as Pilar talks, untucking it) If you want a life with Michelle, you get 
it, if you want it badly enough.
D: Now you're starting to sound like Ray!
P: Well, he's right!! (yes, Pilar, he is!!!)
D: well, you're both naive, (points the drill at her like a gun), naive 
romantics. Ok, it was never meant to be. It was a nightmare (takes shirt off 
and tosses it down) from the beginning, for both of us. 
(they sit together on the bed)
P: Since when did you become such a pessimist?
D: I'm not, I'm a realist.
P; If you love Michelle, if you really love her, you'll find a way. 
D: Forget about me, will you just forget about me? I want you to be happy. If 
you're happy, then I'll be happy.
P: Yeah, but how can I be happy when you are in such pain?
D: (luaghing, as he attacks her with the drill, minus the bit) I am not in 
pain!
P: Stop! I can not believe you're goona just leave Michelle without telling 
her how you feel about her.
D: Pilar, there is nothing to tell. She's busy. She's living her life. I 
can't.... I can't go there.
Bill arrives, knocks at open door
B: hey
P: (smiles) hey

commercial, other characthers, back to Danny, Bill and Pilar

B: Well, I came by to see if you might need a hand, but it looks like your 
brother's sort of got you covered.
P: yeah
D: Bill, look, about what happened the other day...
B: Yeah, listen, the guy came by earlier. He said that it wasn't going to 
happen again. I guess I should be thanking you.
D: No, don't worry about it. They aren't going to be bothering you guys from 
now on. Hey, I want you to keep an eye on her while I am away, ok? She thinks 
she knows everything.
(Pilar smiles at Bill, and he smiles back)
B: yeah, sure, I would love to. Where you gonna go? 
D: (ignores question) And thanks for looking out for her the other day. I 
think, I think, it will good for her to have a friend like you.
P: You're embarrassing!!
D: It's part of my job description (gets her with the drill again, puts his 
arm around her, and looks at Bill). So, ah, you'll keep an eye on her, ok?
B: I will
D: oh, I'm a mess. I gotta go wash up. (he goes into the bathroom)
P: (turns to Bill) God, I'm gonna miss him so much when he is gone. I hate 
that he is leaving, and I knw that he hates it too.
B: Well, to be honest, I think it might be kind of a good idea for Danny to 
be gone for awhile. I know Michelle needs time to get over him and get on 
with her life.
P: Wait! What are you saying? Michelle has feelings for my brother?
B: Are you kidding!?!? Look, Michelle may pretend that she's over your 
brother, but she's not, not even close. In fact, I think that the only way 
that she will get him out of her system is if he goes away awhile, and stays 
away awhile.
P: (intrigued) Really?
B: Yeah, and speaking of going away, I have to go study for a test as soon as 
I give this book to Michelle for organic chemistry. 
P: Well, actually, I have to go get something cold for Danny, so I can give 
this to Michelle at Company.
B: Ok, yeah, thanks
P: So, you study. I'll see you later. Good luck on your test. (smiles to 
herself)

Michelle and Pilar, at Michelle's table at Company
P: Hey Michelle
M: Pilar! Hi! I hear you are moving in next door. 
P: Yeah, the thing is, I got these shelves that I couldn't put up myself, so 
Bill's doing it for me.
M: oh, oh, so that's where he is! (talks to doorway behind her) Thank you for 
telling me, Bill!
P: Well, I have to go get him something, but Bill wanted you to go up and 
keep him company until he's finished and then he'll give yo u that book, if 
you need it. 
M: Great, thanks, I shouldnt be sitting here alone. (leaves)
Pilar smiles to herself

Carmen and Ben
Carmen is sure Danny would never do anything that would hurt Grandma or 
Pilar. Ben talks of the promises Carmen has made, that she isnt delivering, 
and he kissing her on the check. he leaves, and she calls Deitz to tell him 
that the plan worked, and Michelle is as good as dead.

Michelle and Danny
Michelle is talking as she walks into the room
M: Bill, look, why don't you just tell me where the book is, and I' ll get it 
myself
D: huh? (Danny turns around, he is stretching, putting up the shelf with the 
drill)

Danny looks at Michelle as if he wants to comsume her, and Michelle looks 
uneasy under his stare, unsure of where to look, chewing her lower lip, but 
her eyes lit up, and they tell the truth of where she wants to look
