May 6, 1999 We see Michelle walking around the hall of the hospital looking suspicious, and she slowly sneaks into Danny's room. She walks up to him and starts talking to him, he is sleeping. M: I wish I could tell you how I feel. You know I wish I could tell you how much I want you in my life and you're sitting right in front of me and I can't tell you. Danny, I know in my heart that you were coming back for me. And I know that you wanted to save me. But you know Rick says that you have to remember on your own, so I'm just gonna wait. I gonna wait to say all the things I need to say to you. (Danny starts to wake) D: Hey. M: Hi. (He opens his eyes) D: Michelle M: Yeah, it's me, it's Michelle. D: What are you doing here? M: Um, I was assigned to you, actually it's for Pre-Med. (Danny doesn't understand) M: We're monitoring the condition of different patients that we've been assigned, so that's what I'm doing is monitoring your progress. D: Why would you want them to stick you with me? M: What do you mean? D: (laughs) Come on, I know you don't want to have anything to do with me. M: Alright, don't, sshh, just be quiet, sshh. Um, don't think too hard okay? Rick says you're going to be fine. You're just suffering from a minor concussion. You'll be fine, just don't think too hard. Justˇ¦.( I think she started to say sweetie, but just said sweet..) I'm gonna be right here when you remember everything. -------------------------------- Carmen and Ben (in hospital hallway) B: What's this all about Carmen? C: Oh, my son and soon to be ex-wife. I want Michelle Bauer out of my life, and you're going to help me make that happen. -------------------------------- Michelle is sitting with Danny holding his hand, he's sleeping, and she starts to caress his hand ( I loved this) M: It's my fault you know. It's because of me that all this happened to you. I'm sorry. I know you were just trying to protect me. But I'm going to keep you away from your mother. And it's my turn to take care of you now. So that's what I'm gonna do. (Pilar is standing at the door, and walks in) P: For someone who claims they don't want anything to do with my brother, you sure are taking good care of him. M: Well, it's a school assignment, you know, monitoring his progress for Pre-Med. P: So you're saying you didn't ask for this? Well you didn't turn it down either. M: No I didn't. I'm just trying to make up for some missed classes. P: Because of my family. M: No because I don't want to get a bad reputation with the staff, you know, I mean Danny being my husband and everything is not the greatest thing in the world which doesn't make a difference right now, because the marriage is over. P: But your marriage isn't over. You care about Danny as much as he cares about you. And it's frustrating because neither one of you will admit it. M: Well I don't really know about that. P: Well I do Michelle. I've seen my brother's heart, not his words. And from watching you I know you love him, that's why I arranged it for you to be alone in my room, come on you know I did that on purpose. M: Yes of course I know you did that on purpose. I just, um, it's really difficult for me to trust you. P: Why can't you trust me? Is it because of who I am? M: Well yeah. P: Believe me I'm not the Santos you have to worry about. ----------------------------------- B: I can't believe a young girl like Michelle Bauer could cause you a lot of pain. C: I can handle Michelle, it's my son that I'm worried about. B: Oh I thought you said he was doing pretty good. C: He is thank God, it's his memory that is of concern to me. It seems as though he doesn't remember the events leading up to the accident because of a concussion. B: He'll get it back after a little while, short term memory can come back like that. C: That's what I'm afraid of. B: Come again? C: I said something on the phone that Daniel overheard and misunderstood. That's why he turned his car around and was driving back so recklessly. B: And what was that something you said. C: That I wanted Michelle Bauer dead. B: Oh I can't imagine how he could take that the wrong way. What do you need me to do? C: What I need is for Danny to remember things differently. ---------------------------------------- P: I know you don't exactly know how I feel about my mother Michelle. After that's why you're hesitant with me. M: Pilar, do you understand how difficult it is to hate someone you love? Do you know how hard it is to hate them? P: Actually, those are the people you can hate, because you loved them before. But I know exactly how I feel about Danny, I love my brother. I want him to have a different life. The kind of life he deserves. M: And that's the life I want for him too. P: Well, actually, that life includes you too Michelle. Do you know why Danny was leaving? M: Yeah he said he was going out west because he had to live with his uncle, and work with him. So. P: No there's two reasons why Danny left. And actually they both have something to do with you. Danny told me that I should run away from my family, but he can't. He made out mother promise to let me live my life if he agreed to work with our uncle. Don't you see he's not only protecting me Michelle, he's still protecting you. Danny doesn't believe that he can have a separate life from our family. He's given up. M: But I let him. P: Well don't, he needs something to fight for, he needs you Michelle. I look at my brother and I know he loves you. He didn't just choose to leave Michelle, he had to. It was killing him not to be able to be with you. When Bill told me that you couldn't stop thinking about Danny either, I knew I had to do something. I want you to have a chance to open up to each other. Before he left. M: You know it's funny that Danny and I both knew that that's what you were doing, that why you put us in that room together. P: That's why I don't understand. Why can't you be honest with each other, and tell each other how you feel. M: I don't know Pilar. I mean I wish I could. I wish we could. I really do. Alright it's because of the concussion that Danny can't remember the car accident and what led up to it. But I'm going to tell you this alright. I really believe that Danny thought I was in danger. P: Why? M: He thought that your mother was going to hurt me. I mean that's why he was racing back so fast, it's the only thing that makes sense Pilar. P: Would she really do that? Would she really hurt you? (Michelle looks at her and exhales) P: What am I talking about, ever since I found out the truth about my family, nothing surprises me about what that lady can do. M: Yeah I'm really scared she is going to fill his head with things, the way she wants him to remember what happened at the accident. P: Right. M: Right. P: She has to. She has to worry about that because if she doesn't, she could lose him forever. Oh my God, Michelle. M: Listen, it's alright, so far I've gotten her to stay out of the room. I've gotten her to not even see him since he got admitted to this hospital. P: How did you do that? M: Well I'm still his wife, his next of kin, so I sign the hospital papers, I have final say on his care, and who comes in and sees him, and who doesn't. P: Well if you think a bunch of papers are going to stop my mother, you are crazy. I know what she's going to do. M: What? P: She's going to move heaven and earth to try to control this situation. To control Danny. She's not going to let anyone or anything stand in her way. ----------------------------------------- (Ben comes back to Carmen, and sits with her on hospital bench) B: Happy Mother's Day Carmen. (hands over official annulment papers) C: You got them. B: Yeah, they are Danny's divorce papers. It looks like you can finally get rid of little old Michelle afterall. C: You really are a treasure Ben. B: Yeah treasure can be expensive. C: And they can also be buried. B: (laughs) I like you, you know that Carmen, I like you because you are the only woman I know who is poker player enough to bluff with a pair of twos. C: I don't know why you want to waste your time in business, you're such a good attorney. B: As you know, usual reasons. Greed, lust for power, revenge. Besides, you know what Shakespeare said, "First lead then killeth the lawyers." We'd better get those papers to administration so they know Danny doesn't have a wife anymore. C: And that I am his next of kin. B: You know your son is all yours, you know you can get him out of the hospital as soon as you want. C: And away from Michelle for good. ----------------------------------------- (Ben and Carmen are walking down the hall towards Danny's room) C: Michelle Bauer no longer has say in my son's care, he's coming home with me today. He's coming home today, that's the best place for his recovery. B: And the best place for him to recover his memory. C: I'll make a list of the things he needs. The doctors have assured me that his recovery is coming along quite nicely. And I don't believe he needs a nurse. I want to make sure Danny's memory and health heal properly. (Carmen goes to open the door, and both are shocked to see an empty bed) C: He's Gone. Michelle. ----------------------------------------- (Michelle is helping Danny up the Lighthouse stairs) M: Look we're almost there alright. D: Michelle what are you doing here. (They open the door, she helps him in the door, he has to stop to regain energy, and she helps him on to the bed) M: Look this place is safe. D: Why are we here, why? M: Look it's safe and I'm gonna take care of you until you remember everything alright? Ok. (Danny just sits there looking at her)
